planning for practice
I understand this component is about:
- Guiding the planning and making of the product.
- Planning includes effective time management, efficient use of materials, factoring in costs, and expertise assistance that could be required in the development of the product.
- Documenting progress throughout the development process. Implementing changes, strategies where required.
- Using planning tools such as journals, flow charts, Gantt chart, to help guide process.
How do key understandings regarding this component link to my product?
- Using a planning journal I was able to brainstorm ideas for symbols to represent my puppet. One symbol to represent my part of the puppet and another to represent my son and partner. This helped me to narrow down the choices to a bure to represent me and a kiwi to represent my son and partner.
- The "Planning for Practice" section in my planning journal helped to guide me in identifying skills I required in learning how to cut the wood for the puppet. I consulted with staff member Dave who provided me with training and tips on using the jigsaw and scroll saw. I also needed to identify how I would connect the hinge to both parts of the puppet; detailing of both parts of the puppet. Overriding all these issues was factoring in the time involved for me to successful complete the tasks.
Planning for practice section in planning journal.
- Guiding my planning of the materials I would be using, was the information noted on my initial brief. The puppet would be made out of hardwood - light in weight for ease of use. I utilized the expertise of the workshop staff Dave as to the best type of wood for me to use. Factors which he noted for me to consider was the connection of the hinge to the two parts. If I wanted to screw the hinge into the parts I would need to use thicker wood. I opted for the lightweight thinner wood which meant the hinge would need to be attached to the parts using the hot glue gun. The textiles used for one part of the puppet will be influenced by Pasifika patterns, the other part will be kiwiana type patterns.
