characteristics of technological outcomes
I understand this component is about:
- Technological outcomes are products and systems developed through technological practice for a specific purpose.
- A technological outcome is evaluated in terms of its fitness for purpose.
- Technological outcomes can be described by their physical and functional nature.
- A technological outcome can only be interpreted when the social and historical context of its development and use are known.
- The term proper function is used to describe the function that the technologist intended the technological outcome to have and/or its socially accepted common use.
- If a technological outcome does not carry out its 'proper' function successfully it is described as a malfunction.
- Alternative functions are successful functions that have been evolved by end-users.
- Technological outcomes work together with non-technological entities and systems in the development of socio-technological environments.
How do key understandings regarding this component link to my product?
- In developing my puppet identity I created a pininterest website on various wooden puppets as I felt they would be better able to represent the two parts of my identity (one being myself and the other my son and partner). I also noted web links to hinges and how to install them as the two parts of the puppets would mostly likely be separated by a hinge or some similar mechanism. https://www.pinterest.com/aeva010/puppet-identity-technology-assignment-2015/
- In reflecting what could be ideal represent me in the puppet, I googled images and symbols relating to Fiji. The symbol I chose a traditional Fijian house - a bure - is made of a mixture of materials. This I felt represented me as I was a mixture of ethnicities. Wikipedia meaning of bure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bure_(Fiji)
- In reflecting symbols to represent my son and partner I googled symbols for New Zealand and chose a kiwi to represent them.
- The puppet would be in two parts, one part would be in the shape of a Fijian bure, the other part will be in the shape of a kiwi. It would be made of light wood - for ease of use. Textiles would be utilised as detailing for both parts of the puppet. The two parts would be joined by a hinge.
- Specific machinery and their systems would be utilised in developing the puppet.
