brief development
I understand this component is about:
- Describing the product outcome that will meet an identified need or opportunity.
- Identifying what needs to be undertaken and the reason for it.
- Information from stakeholders (directly or indirectly) is collated and incorporated in the brief development.
- Any research on the product or existing products is undertaken as part of the brief development.
- The products attributes and specifications note the required details for the final product. Its fitness for purpose is also measured in the product outcome.
- It is through the brief that the steps for technological practice are influenced. If changes are required as the product is being developed then they are made to the brief. A brief is not fixed in this regard.
- A product's fitness for purpose through the materials utilised and how it will work is considered in the brief.
How do key understandings regarding this component link to my product?
- In my initial brief development, I identified the need for an identity puppet which I could utilise during my practicums as a way of introducing myself. The stakeholders being myself (directly) and students and teachers I encounter during my practicums (indirectly).
- How my puppet would function (a two part puppet with each part separated by a hinge. Each part will be held up by a wooden rod) and its physical appearance (15cm high both parts, made from light wood for ease of use and will have textiles as detailing), especially the materials to be utilised noted in my brief helped to guide the making of my puppet.
- I researched wooden puppets that resembled or had similar components to what I wanted my puppet to look like and created a Pinterest website.
- As I was developing my puppet I had undertaken a few failure analysis that my brief had to change slightly to accommodate the resolved steps, strategies and methods.
